Not sure if this is or is not the 'norm' but I just received my brand new iPhone here in the UK and once it had been activated on iTunes I found that the home screen (the screen you can personalise with a photo) already had a photo set against it !!!!

iPod Saves US Soldiers Life

Not an iPod mod but worth a very notable mention. This 20 GB model took a bullet from an insurgent AK-47 in Iraq. Kevin Garrad (3rd Infantry Division) had this iPod in his pocket during the confrontation, the iPod prevented the bullet from entering his body armor and he walked away without any injuries. The complete story is posted with the original image here.

Well it's not quite a mode unless you consider turning this first gen iPod from white to black via a blow torch.

I am impressed by how long it took before the music stopped. That sucker was glowing red.

Mac Mini G4 Portable

Peter Green serves up a great Mac Mod. A Mini G4 portable.

Here are the specs:

Time took to complete: Approximately 2 weeks.
Most difficult part of the mod: Constructing/fabricating the case and dissipating the heat from the regulator powering the TFT 8-inch LCD.
8-inch LCD screen resolution: Default res. 800x600, but can go up to 1280x960!
Average battery life: 3-Hours of Mac mini portable computing.
Pretty much all the materials were found or recycled items.
$700 for us Yanks. Not a bad price for the worlds smallest portable Mac OS X system.

Tatra gets a G4 Transplant

Hey, even in the former Eastern Bloc, now the very democratic Czech Republic, there are Mac Mod freaks. Today we this find Mac fanatic has taken his G4 and stripped it down boxed it up nicely and transplanted it into his "Tatra" with a 7" VGA display in the dash. Used for GPS nav from what I can see.

Mac mini hits the road - Luxuary Ride

Mac Mini makes it way into a luxuary 2006 Infiniti M45 Sport.
This Apple Mac mini is installed in the center console. This great transformation links the mini via Apple's DVI to Comp video. It's operated remotely via Bluetooth through a Palm Treo 650. A Kensington Bluetooth mini-mouse gives easy access to the desktop which is viewed throygh the 7" LCD's in the dash and centre roof console. Internet acccess is gained through the Mac mini built in Wi Fi airport card. Rsync X is used to update iTunes wirelessly from a G5 that's in the house.

Dream ride if you ask me.

Old School Apple MOD seen here in this ad for Apple Macintosh in a 1984 ad. Not sure if many of these machines are still around. I used one at work oh...maybe 12 years ago for word processing... at the time it was maybe 8 years old. Worked well as always with Macs.
